Kids,
I thought maybe I would use a few letters to share a little more about some of my favorite people, who I know will be your favorite people as well. You're pretty lucky. You have a great family. You have wonderful grandparents, aunts, uncles and some pretty cool cousins.
My favorite person happens to be your dad. We've been together along time so I would say I know him pretty well. Trust me, I picked a good one. Did you know we dated 6 years before we got married?
We were very young when we met. I was 17 and your dad was 19. It was April 2003 and I was just about to graduate high school. Your dad was one year ahead of me in school so he had already graduated and was taking college courses at the local community college. We met on a blind date at a Kenny Chesney concert. We went to a Pat Green concert a few months later and we've been together ever since. Soon after, your dad transferred to the University of Oklahoma. You will quickly learn what an obsession he has for anything OU. He will probably bring you home from the hospital in some kind of OU related clothing.
Meanwhile, I went to TCU in Fort Worth and so began a long distance relationship for three years. I knew he was meant to be your dad though so we took our time, finish college, found jobs and then got married. Six years of preparation for a wedding on August 1, 2009.
I've digressed a little. This letter was suppose to be about your dad and not the story of our dating lives. The future is still to be written so who knows what is to come, but right now your dad is a teacher. I like to think of him as a dad in good training. He gets to hang out with kids all day. He is patient, very knowledgeable about history, funny, quick on his feet, athletic, kind. He will teach you everything you will ever learn about basketball. You'll have good genes from both sides of the family so I'm sure you'll be athletes.
Your dad has taken care of me the last 8 years with a lifetime more to go. I can't wait for you to share it with us!
Love,
Mom
